When surgery is required
Lynne Mustchin underwent a sleeve gastrectomy as she was unhappy with her weight and the impact it had on both her social and professional life. As a medical receptionist at Pingelly General Practice, she always found she was talking to patients about their health but always put hers “out of mind, out of sight”.
Lynne didn’t have an ah-ha moment like many patients have, she just knew it was time to make a change. She had researched the procedure prior to booking a consultation and was sure she wanted to make a lifelong commitment.
Since my surgery I have felt really well, and I have plenty of energy and my confidence is growing every day. I am really happy with the changes I am starting to notice in my body so soon.
I had researched the procedure and the pros and cons I have had no concerns at all.
How is sleeve gastrectomy performed?
During your sleeve gastrectomy surgery, Dr Dolan will make between one and five small incisions in your abdomen. Operating with these small incisions is referred to as keyhole surgery. He will then insert various laparoscopic instruments and remove 80% of your stomach. This will leave a banana-shaped “sleeve” that connects the oesophagus to the small intestines. This surgery will be completed laparoscopically in 30 minutes.
The gastric sleeve procedure is done for patients of all ages, from children to the elderly.
What to expect after surgery
Undergoing a sleeve gastrectomy means your much smaller stomach will cause you feel full sooner and result in quite dramatic and long-term weight loss.
I haven’t had any struggles as yet since surgery as I have followed everything I have been told do. Dr Dolan and his staff have been amazing and so supportive and helpful – they make you feel so relaxed.
I couldn’t be happier with my surgery, care and staff contact. Working in a medical practice I understand how hard it is to deal with stressed and anxious patients and the ladies have been amazing, I am really impressed with their caring attitude and helpfulness.
A survey of WALOS patients reports over 90% are happy with their results. They have
avoided weight regain by:
- Working closely with Dr Dolan, and their assigned dietitian
- Using a personal trainer/fitness coach/or exercising with like-minded people
- Having the support of family and friends
- Maintaining motivation and dedication
Dr Dolan operates on patients both locally and interstate the team have many resources to help these patients reach their weight loss goals.
My post op care was great and being a country patient, they have been really accommodating.
Dr Dolan has made me feel comfortable through the whole process and I find him really easy to talk to and I have nothing but praise for his work and bed side manner.
For Dr Dolans sleeve gastrectomy patients, when they hit the five-year post-surgery mark, the average patient has kept off over half of their excess weight. This is something Lynne is looking forward to as she has already seen incredible results.
I couldn’t be happier and look forward to watching my body change for the better.
